The Eyres Perth night jump concluded the three week competition tour in Australia for the GTF girls. Jumping in the dark was the perfect adrenaline filled way to finish off on a high note. Night jump events bring another level of excitement to both the jumpers and the crowd. The GTFs want to shout out a big thank you for the organizers and the club members for their hospitality!

The jump event started around nine o’clock as we waited patiently for the wind to die down a bit. In the end conditions on Swan river got better and better as the night progressed. During the day the white capping cross wind got everyone a bit nervous. As soon as the first skier Nancy Chardin left the dock we knew it was go time and no time to hesitate but to go and boost some big jumps!

The first three girls nancy, Marie and Lauren each out jumped each other by about a half a meter making it a close competition from the start. Marion who was third after the prelims jumped 46,1 assuring her spot on the podium. Jutta beat her distance by just 0,4m also assuring a spot on the podium. Jacinta boosted a big jump on her first attempt and took home the gold finishing off a good three weeks in her home country with two wins and one second place finish.

Congrats Jacinta and all the other GTFs! A great start to what looks like an amazing year of pro jump events!

World cup stop in Mandurah western Australia finished yesterday with GTF Jacinta Carroll taking the gold in her home country. Conditions were tricky but the competition was tough with all the girls jumping very similar distances. The world cup was part of Eyres Action Sport Games which brought skiing in front of a bigger crowd. The atmosphere over the weekend was really cool with all the extreme sports brought together and the town was buzzing.

In the final most of the girls improved their scores and the pressure was on for the top seeded skiers. As the conditions out there on the water were pretty bumpy the best chance for a big jump was on the first attempt. This brought a pretty unusual set up for a big competition because there was no chance to get adjusted to the conditions but to just go for it! Marion finished second and Lauren third.

Results from the final round:
1. Jacinta Carroll 46.3
2. Marion Mathieu 43.7
3. Lauren Morgan 43.5
4. Jutta Lammi 43.0
5. Alex Lauretano 42.3
6. Marie Vympranietsova 40.5
7. Nancy Chardin 36.4
8. Danyelle Bennett 30.5

From Mandurah the girls are headed for next weekend’s Perth Nightjump. This time the GTFs will be battling for the gold skiing under the lights in downtown Perth once again bringing waterski jumping closer to the crowd. Australia has been super exciting so far and bring on another week of sunshine!

Jutta Lammi just accomplished a dream this weekend. She won her first Pro win and she is now the Moomba Masters champion 2013.

Runner up was Jacinta Rabbit from Australia and 3rd Marion Matheu from France. It was a tight finale, congrats girls.

Jutta and the rest of the GFT’s in Australia have now travelled to Mandurah and will be competing there this weekend. Keep tuned for scores, but first read about Jutta’s experience about her first time down under here….

Jutta:

It has been quite a few years I’ve dreamed of traveling to Australia and skiing at the Moomba masters. Finally this year I got to make the big trip to the other side of the world after having trained for a month at Jack Traver’s ski school in florida. I was super nervous for getting adjusted to skiing on the Yarra river and to be able to give it my all from jump number one as a Moomba rookie! My very first effort was a 47 meter jump and didn’t feel half bad. From there on I was able to build up and really go for it! The real highlight was monday’s final. Lauren Morgan boosted a 50,40m leap on her last jump right before me and I knew she had set the bar high. On my second jump I managed to gain heaps of speed into the ramp and it felt awesome to fly in front of the Moomba crowd! Jumping 52,30 in the finals felt unreal. Marion jumped 50,80 and Jacinta who went last off the dock jumped 51,30. The buzz of this event is so impressive and I can’t wait to be back. It took a while to kick in that I had actually took home my first pro win.

I could have not asked for a better beginning for the 2013 season! This is going to be a fun GTF year with loads of pro comps all over the world. Us girls are staying in Australia for another too weekends of competitions. Its really awesome traveling together and the atmosphere and support has been great!
